19-20 BS3580: Cell And Molecular Neuroscience

This course will discuss how our CNS develops, how are neurons specified and the steps required to enable their maturation. We will discuss that although nature is plastic allowing some kind of flexibility in the process of "making" which is a blessing for evolution, the outcome of "mutations" or rather tampering might have profound effects on our everyday lives. We will discuss what happens if things do actually go wrong with an emphasis on neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and epilepsy as well as mechanisms of defence: neuroprotection.

Pre-requisite of this course is BS2550.
