19-20 CR2011: Research Methods for Social Scientists

This is a core course for 2nd Year BSc Criminology and Sociology students and an optional course for 2nd Year LLB Law with Sociology students in the Department of Law and Criminology. 

Course Aims:

·         To introduce students to the research process and philosophical and ethical debates related to conducting social research.

·         To provide students with an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of using different data collection methods. 

·         To equip students with the skills to conduct quantitative and qualitative forms of data analysis. 

·         To teach students how to write up empirical research in formal research reports.
