19-20 PH4475: Physics at the Nanoscale
Course provide an introduction to the rapidly growing area of nano-science. We introduce the physics and technology of nano-structures, discuss their special properties, fabrication methods and metrology. On completion of the course, students should be able to:
Appreciate the difference between the physics on the classical (macro-) scale and on the quantum (nano-)scale.
Understand the properties of nanostructures in ‘zero’, one and two dimensions.
Understand the fabrication and characterisation of nano-devices.
