19-20 PH3730: Superconductivity and Magnetism
Aims: to learn about the physics and applications of magnetism in solids and superconductors; to enhance problem solving skills and self study skills.
Learning Outcomes: a solid understanding of the physics of solid state magnetism and superconductors based on microscopic and phenomenological models; understanding of how the properties and concepts describing these two material classes are embedded in the wider context of solid state physics; thorough understanding of many-particle concepts by solving associated quantitative problems; ability to describe qualitatively and quantitatively applications of these two important classes of materials and be aware of modern trends in associated research.
