19-20 DT3970: Practice-as-Research Methodologies

This course explores a broad range of practice-based research methodologies and methods central to performance, dance and theatre making and research. We will engage with various ways of understanding Practice as Research (PaR) in order to identify key themes in the field and how they have been investigated by artists in the Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries. In so doing, the course provides an opportunity for you to engage in historically informed practice and apply various methodologies and methods to collaborative performance research. Teaching will be research led and will allow you to develop performative enquiries to help think through current debated in the field. You will be asked to facilitate group discussions and presentations in orden to sharpen your critical research questions. These will be explored through your own practice and further developed in written form for essay assessment.
