This unit provides an introduction to quantitative and qualitative analysis, SPSS and Nvivo. In lab sessions during the first five weeks we will analyse data from the seventh round of the European Social Survey, looking, amongst other things, at the relationship between gender and fear of crime. After reading week we will move on to qualitative analysis and conduct a discourse analysis of political speeches and use semiotics to analyse a set of images.
